After enduring a long rainy winter in B-town and a sluggish spring, a few friends and I decided to go find summer since it hadn't found us, yet. Where did we find summer? Well, not too far away, just over the hill, in glorious Winthrop, WA.
Winthrop, Wa is known for their winter recreation. It is known as the cross country and heli skiig meca of the west. In the warmer months the summer recreation includes pretty much anything and everything from mountain biking, road biking, kayaking, conueing, ballooning, fishing, golfing, ect. You name it and you can probably do it.
We decided to take advantage of the 80 degree weather on the endless bike trails. The trails were smooth and buff with varying degrees of difficulty, something for everyone. Our weekend was hosted by the owner of the local bike shop, Joe Brown, of Methow Cycle and Sport, who not only recommended some great trails to ride but also gave us the inside scoop on his favorite campsite.
The town itself is a small community with a western motif. We experienced a cattle herd stampeding through town as we ate breakfast at a small local cafe and spotted various wildlife throughout the weekend. Winthrop real estate is still affordable and is a great place for relocation, retirement, or a vacation home, as it is one of the last frontiers. It has a small community feel and offers a high standard of living, with lots of options for excersising and great organic, free-range fare. Definetly worth the visit.
